This is the painting from the first image in my last post. Mixed media (mostly acrylic). I wanted to focus on line today.
Streetlight Magazine, an online publication based in Charlottesville, Virginia, is featuring my work on their blog this month. Check it out here. Nicely done. I am thankful for the shout-out.
Speaking of online reads, have you been to RAR lately? We have been incredibly busy so far this summer, spotlighting the many noteworthy exhibitions around town. Below are some works in progress. After a comic over at Hyperallergic put me in my place (it's a good "ouch"), I decided it is now time to adapt: I am (slowly) teaching myself how to enjoy acrylic paint on a smaller scale. In a lecture at the LOOK3 Festival this year, the photographer Carrie Mae Weems introduced to me the concept of "the economy of means," and the process of staying true to the creative moment. Time to make the best of what I have when it comes to workspace and materials. Wishing for a large studio won't make a good painting, but painting will. The works below are all in phase one. |
